Head coach of FC Samartex 1996, Christopher Ennin, has credited tactical discipline and detailed opposition analysis for his team’s impressive 2–1 victory over Asante Kotoko SC in Kumasi.
The Ghana Premier League fixture, played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Tuesday morning, April 7, 2026, was a rescheduled match after heavy rainfall forced postponement on Monday, April 6, 2026.
Coach Ennin Explains Tactical Approach
Speaking after the match, Ennin revealed that his team’s preparation was based on a deep understanding of Kotoko’s playing style and rhythm.
He stated that his experience and prior encounters with the club gave him insight into how to disrupt their game plan effectively.
“I always enjoy playing against Kotoko in Kumasi. I remember beating their ten players during my days with Berekum Chelsea. I know how to frustrate Kotoko and make them play to our rhythm,” he said.
He added that his side deliberately forced Kotoko to adapt to Samartex’s strengths, which ultimately influenced the outcome of the match.
According to him, tactical discipline remained the key factor behind the result.
Samartex Execute Game Plan to Perfection
Samartex’s strategy proved effective on the pitch, with a disciplined performance that limited Kotoko’s ability to control the game.
Christian Boateng opened the scoring in the 54th minute, before Emmanuel Mammah doubled the lead late in the match, putting the visitors in a strong position.
Their structured approach allowed them to maintain control during crucial phases of the game.
Late Drama at Baba Yara Stadium
Kotoko were handed a late opportunity to reduce the deficit after Elvis Kyei-Baffuor was fouled inside the penalty area, an incident that also led to a red card for Samartex midfielder Samed Kyei.
However, Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil failed to convert the resulting penalty, missing a key chance to shift momentum.
Despite the setback, Albert Amoah managed to pull one goal back in stoppage time, but it was not enough to salvage a result for the home side.
The Bigger Picture: Tactical Discipline in Ghana Football
The result highlights the growing tactical competitiveness in the Ghana Premier League, where structured game plans and preparation are increasingly influencing match outcomes.
Samartex’s victory over a traditional powerhouse like Kotoko further reinforces the importance of tactical awareness and execution in modern Ghanaian football.
