The academic unrest in the prevalent #SharksQuiz season 4 lingers on as participating schools continue to claim academic superiority. Many have been seen making the effort to confirm these rights while along the line, several others have been shown that there is indeed more to just the claims. #TheSharksQuiz has for weeks now offered the platform for these institutions to battle it out in intense play-offs.
Saturday’s contest featured two influential and academically strong institutions, Achimota School and Opoku Ware School quiz their way through to the next stage of the show. Only one chance was available for the winning school to take.
It started off competitively with either school making the best out of the time given in the first part. Out of the eight questions, both schools correctly answered six, bringing the results in that round to 60 points each. This increased the tension as many impatient supporters questioned their predictions. Soon, the second round was underway.
This round incepted the “wrong to lose” part of the contest where a wrongly answered question cost some precious points. Contestants were required to be sure of the answers they gave and be confident that they were right. The profit and loss method was fairly applied and in the end, Opoku Ware School scored 40 points leaving Achimota School at 25.
A leader had been identified now, but the margin was not to be feared nor rejoiced over. A little more set of rightly answered questions could change the standing in favour of the latter. The STEM round was next. It was a round of application in areas such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Amidst the back and forth and the rise and fall, the Ashanti contingents again fired away with 45 points while their Accra counterparts scored nothing.
At this point, Opoku Ware had increased the margin by 60 points. There was only the last round for Achimota School to prove their relevance. They had let themselves be dragged, but maybe it was part of their strategy. Perhaps, they had saved the best of their package for the last. They are known for last-minute wonders. Maybe this was just one of those moments.
At the toll of the bell for the last round, the first pair, one from either school stood shoulders high, ready to tame the other. This one-on-one session went on in various disciplines until each of the contestants had had a take on the other. As hard as they played and with all the efforts they put in, Achimota School failed to make any relevant statement. They let their opponents whisk them into ordinary sublimation.
