Ghanaian rapper Medikal has addressed the ongoing legal dispute surrounding his “Alabaster Box” project, stating that he would have preferred to resolve the matter amicably rather than through the courts.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on April 22, 2026, the artiste confirmed that the issue is currently under legal consideration.
Attempts to Resolve the Issue Amicably
According to Medikal, efforts were made to engage the opposing party before the situation escalated.
“We could have solved it amicably… but they proceeded to court,” he said.
He explained that his representatives had initiated discussions, including plans for a meeting to address concerns raised.
Dispute Escalated Quickly
Medikal noted that events unfolded rapidly, with legal action reportedly taken shortly after initial communication between both sides.
“It happened so fast… within 48 hours,” he stated.
He added that despite intentions to resolve the issue through dialogue, the matter progressed to formal legal proceedings.
Compliance With Requests
The rapper also disclosed that his team complied with requests made by the opposing party, including taking down the song and providing information regarding revenue generated within a short period after release.
According to him, these actions were taken in an effort to respect the concerns raised.
Expression of Respect and Apology
Medikal expressed disappointment over the situation, describing the individuals involved as people he has long admired.
“It’s sad because these are father figures,” he said.
He also issued an apology, clarifying that there was no intention to disrespect or discredit anyone’s work.
“Sometimes, when you’re in the studio, you just create… with no intention of stealing,” he explained.
Current Status of the Case
The matter remains in court, with both parties expected to resolve the dispute through legal processes unless an alternative agreement is reached.
The Bigger Picture: Creativity and Copyright in Music
The situation highlights ongoing conversations in the music industry around sampling, intellectual property, and creative rights.
