Ghanaian reggae/dancehall sensation Charles Nii Armah Mensah, famously known as Shatta Wale, has fired back at fellow artist Stonebwoy following remarks made before his landmark performance at Vybz Kartel’s Freedom Concert in Jamaica.
Shatta Wale Accuses Stonebwoy of Jealousy
In a viral video circulating on social media on January 4, 2025, Shatta Wale responded to Stonebwoy’s comments, suggesting they were motivated by jealousy. He asserted that Stonebwoy’s statements about his performance were aimed at undermining his achievements.
“Unless you are a jealous person, you would want to fight others. But I won’t fight anyone this year because I’m not a fighter like Nelson Azumah. I’m here to speak the truth and focus on building the industry so that everyone can benefit,” Shatta Wale declared.

A Lifelong Dream Fulfilled
Reflecting on his performance with Vybz Kartel, Shatta Wale described the moment as a fulfillment of a 20-year dream.
“I told myself the first time I would perform in Jamaica, it should be with Vybz Kartel. It took me 20 years to make that happen. Before he was arrested, I wanted to perform with him. Then he went to jail, and I had to wait 13 years for this to become a reality,” he revealed.
The Freedom Concert, held on December 31, 2024, marked Vybz Kartel’s first live performance in over 14 years following his release from prison, making Shatta Wale’s participation even more significant.

Shatta Wale Responds to Online Comparisons
Addressing online comparisons with Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale dismissed the negativity and highlighted his commitment to personal growth. A recent video showing him speaking fluent Patois with locals sparked discussions on his authenticity in the dancehall scene.
“When you are true to yourself, you will go places. People need to understand that I come from somewhere. I’m even learning Spanish now because the lady who saved me is Spanish,” Shatta Wale explained.
Stonebwoy’s “Curtain Raiser” Remark
Before the concert, Stonebwoy, in an interview, referred to Shatta Wale’s performance as merely a “curtain raiser,” sparking a wave of reactions across social media. Shatta Wale, however, has remained focused on celebrating his achievement and dismissed any attempts to downplay his success.
