Lydia Alhassan Defeats John Dumelo To Retain Ayawaso West Wuogon Seat

The MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Lydia Alhassan, has defeated NDC’s John Dumelo in the 2020 polls to retain her seat.

The Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency was the center of attraction going into this year’s election due to the fierce battle for supremacy in the constituency.

Per the certified results, Lydia Alhassan polled 39,851 of the total votes while Dumelo managed 37,778 votes.

There were 595 rejected ballots.

Madam Alhassan had earlier projected that she would win the poll with 60% of the vote but her opponent Dumelo had also urged the public to disregard social media speculation that he was losing the race.

“They are appreciative of the work that we have done, and for me, I have been an MP for less than two years and they have seen my good works. My signature is all over the place and so for them, they are renewing my mandate and that of President Akufo-Addo,” she said.

She replaced her late husband Emmanuel Boakye Agyarko in January 2019 when she contested and won the parliamentary seat for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election

Lydia Alhassan had earlier declared herself victorious in the contest after some of the results began trickling in from the various constituency.

“Thank you God for an answered prayer. Thank you Ayawaso West Wuogon for this Victory. I take my scripture from Proverbs 21:31,” she posted on Facebook.
