Samuel Takyi won his Olympic quarter-last to win the bronze medal at Tokyo 2020. The award will be Ghana’s first at the games. The 20-year-old beat the 32-year old David Avila, a Southpaw in the Quarterfinals by a 3-2 choice.

His success ensures an Olympic award for a Ghanaian competitor in 29 years. The featherweight fighter gets a boxing award for Ghana after Prince Amartey last did it in 1972. He will confront American Duke Ragan in the Semi-finals on Tuesday, third August at 2:30 AM (GMT).

He will battle in the semis for an opportunity to get gold. All fighters in the semi-finals naturally get a bronze decoration.
