President Nana Akufo-Addo has urged former President John Mahama to participate in a public debate with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the December elections.
Despite repeated calls from Dr. Bawumia and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for a debate, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has consistently declined, stating that their flagbearer will not debate Dr. Bawumia.
Speaking to chiefs in Tamale on Wednesday, October 16, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of open dialogue in a democratic society and encouraged Mahama to engage directly with Bawumia to clarify his stance on key issues.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted the need for a reliable and consistent leader, stating, “We need someone whose work can be trusted and who is clear-minded. This is why many Ghanaians are calling for a debate between Mahama and Bawumia.”
He questioned Mahama’s reluctance to debate, saying, “Why is John Mahama avoiding the debate? The people of Ghana deserve to see who stands for what. Mr. Mahama, what is your position on the free senior high school policy? Will you continue it, review it, or cancel it? These are questions you need to answer clearly.”
President Akufo-Addo concluded by stressing that no one should be allowed to become president without providing straightforward answers to these critical questions.
