Legendary musician and burger highlife pioneer, George Darko passes on.
The burger highlife pioneer died on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, according to Hitz FM presenter Andy Dosty.
Andy Dosty, who made the announcement on his ‘DayBreakHitz’ show said, “News reaching us indicates that Nana Ampem Darko, popularly known as George Darko, has passed on.”
According to close sources, the late George Darko before his death, was a regular patient at the Palliative Ward of the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital.
Until his demise, he had been on admission for the past 3 months and was pronounced dead in the early hours of Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
He was also guitarist, vocalist, composer and songwriter, who has been on the music scene since the late 1960s.
George Darko was popular in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, and his songs are some of the most timeless and enduring highlife tracks in Ghana’s music circles.
