There is a new job opening at WSUP. The Project Engineer role is an exciting opportunity to join our Ghana Programme. Reporting directly to the Country Manager (CM) and working closely with the Head of Water based in the Secretariat in London, the role has wide-ranging responsibilities to contribute to the ongoing Rural Water Utilitisation Project (R-WUP) to support Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) on the journey to full rural and small-town water utility transformation.
The role aims to improve operational efficiency of water systems in the areas of non-revenue water (NRW), energy efficiency, billing and collection efficiency and customer centricity.
This role is for a fixed-term contract to March 31st, 2024, but may be renewed for a further 12(twelve) months upon satisfactory performance and subject to the availability of funding.
Main responsibilities & tasks:
- Technical design and development
- Work with CWSA in the Western Region and contribute to the implementation of their
vision to become the example for organisational efficiency at CWSA by endeavouring
to instill a customer centric approach in decision-making. - Work alongside the Head of Water (Based in the Secretariat, London) to formulate
initiatives that enhance and complement WSUP’s work with water utilities in Ghana, to strengthen their ability to reach low-income customers with safe water while still operating as a financially viable performing Utility. - Manage activities in the achievement of project milestones ensuring expenditures are within approved budgets and according to local laws.
- In close collaboration with the water system managers from CWSA, lead on the technical inspection of infrastructure assets and advise on improvements necessary for an efficient operation.
- Collaborate with CWSA staff to develop and implement an asset management system for targeted water systems which can be updated and accessed by the staff both in the Western Region and in Head Office in Accra.
- Provide direction and technical input to CWSA staff at model water systems to develop and meet its performance-based business plan, its operation and long-term vision.
- Work alongside a water system specialist and CWSA staff to conduct energy audit and implement energy efficiency improvement plans at the model water systems.
- Collaborate with a water system specialist and CWSA staff to conduct non-revenue
water (NRW) assessments and implement NRW reduction strategy using the IWA Water balance ensuring the commercial losses are taken into consideration along with physical losses at model water systems. - Provide technical support to relevant water system staff and technical teams to develop and conduct assessment of key maintenance logistic needs to provide and serve as baseline for an inventory system.
- Undertake a water safety plan audit and work with the Regional staff to develop their own plan
- Work with CWSA in the Western Region and contribute to the implementation of their
Qualification and experience:
- Working in water utility operations with management expertise
- Providing management of water systems. (A)
- Mechanical engineering degree or certification in water and sanitation
- A subject linked to engineering (A)
- Work experience in a variety of ethnic settings (I)
- Project management and planning expertise (A, I)
- Professional experience in low-income areas (LIC) (A, I)
- Participation in coordination meetings at the metropolitan level (I)
