The number of hits that have come over Africa this year is totally the likes of nothing we have ever seen. Even as you’re reading this article somehow, somewhere another hit song just dropped. But before we wrap up the year though in no particular order here are 15 badass hits that kept the world dancing.

Number 15 Rush

Ever since Ayra Starr made her debut in music. She has money to drop heat after heat, incredible vocals, and sassiness, and her ability to appeal to a wider demographics is unbelievable. Rush is a track like no other with millions of streams all over social media. It is no surprise that this is a track that will get stuck in your head once you hear it.

Number 14 Sugarcane

Camidoh, Sugarcane was already a hit, and rather than these three joining for the remix calling this song a hit would be an understatement. The remix to the song Sugarcane is a song that we can never stop playing with catchy lyrics and mind-blowing rhythms everyone seems to be catching this code call it the afrobeat cafe of 2022.

Number 13 Calm Down

Come Down by Rema’s hands down wins the trophy for the most unique and easily recognizable tune of the year. With an insane number of listeners around the world, there isn’t a single soul who hasn’t heard of this track. The original track in a matter of months got close to a quarter of a billion views and the remix with Selena I must say is doing pretty well.

Number 12 Ameno Amapiano Remix

Despite facing licensing issues and getting pulled off major stream platforms. Ameno still remains one of the year’s greatest hits to ever come out of Africa. The song was put together by Neptunes and Goya Menor so the entire world dances and reacts in a way like nothing we’ve ever seen number.

Number 11 Finesse

The major ingredient in every hit ever is the catchy chorus in dice of saying what’s on people’s minds. Finesse is a simple and easy-to-sing-along song that automatically became the song of the streets. The song quickly gunned over 60 million views in a span of 7 months and we’re not even counting that on Spotify and Tick Tock.

Number 10 Kweku The Traveller

Why you certainly know this list wouldn’t be complete without the likes of  Kweku The Traveller.  Just like Finesse by feels quickly  Kweku The Traveller became a song synonymous with grinding, hustling, and pushing p. Black Sheriff became famous after his aggressive first and second sermon freestyles. This kind of motivated him to shake the world with another single  Kweku The Traveller. A song that has stopped the charts and still remains people’s favorite.

Number 9 Terminator

I don’t know about you but Asake is a gem we got to protect at all costs. Terminator just like all of his other hit songs and oh there are a lot of those. You know his music style is hard to place he infuses several musical styles into his music. He uses praise singing, eulogy, and a street hub to create an upbeat chorus making his music second to none.

Number 8 Last Last

Burna Boy debatably has one of the best songs of the year on his hands with Last Last a single from his highly anticipated album Love Damini. With last Last Last being a mega hit across the world a hefty price has to be paid you guessed right. Burna Boy currently pays 60 of his earnings to Toni Braxton for sampling her song he wasn’t man enough, sucks but it is what it is.

Number 7 Bloque

Fally Ipupa isn’t a new name when it comes to dropping hits. The Congolese singer has countless hit songs to his name and this year’s Bloque came as low brainer. Every sound Fally Ipupa ever dropped is a waist job and Bloque song dance across the world can’t get enough of.

Number 6 Down Flat

Kelvin Boy’s down flat we just relayed in January 2022 has since been dominating the International music charts. The song continues to gain massive traction for its chill and easy-listen vibe. Compared to the millions of views other hits of this year have received Down Flat is on a slow but short kind of grind. Metaphorically down flat is a fine wine that gets better with every ship.

Number 5 Mtasu Biri

If you want the love of Tanzanian germs then you know these duos are two of the biggest hitmakers out there. This banger is part of Diamond Platinum’s newly dropped album titled first of all. Which contains a total of 10 sweet and incredible tracks nice. This is a tune that was surely married a place on your playlist if you appreciate great music.

Number 4 Kulosa

Kulosa by Oxlade is one of the biggest alphabet singles making its way in Africa and the world right now. The song has an incredible number of replays on Tick Tock and YouTube making it the biggest afrobeat sensation and inevitably becoming an all-season anthem across the globe.

Number 3 Sungba

This year has Asake Nigeria’s busiest artists dropping hits back to back. We can make this list all about Asake but I certainly don’t want to get a target on my back so I’m keeping it low. Sungba together with its remix with Burna Boy has received an incredible number of views across all streaming platforms and thus became one of this year’s biggest hits.

Number 2 Mi Amor

Swahili has always been a go-to for African love songs and this hit track by Marioo and Jovial proved it. The song has gathered over 20 million views on YouTube with several million on other streaming sites like Spotify and Apple music.

Number 1 Buga

You know there isn’t a chance this list will be complete without the likes of BugaBuga has cemented its place as a blueprint for what makes an African hit, amazing beat, catchy and easy-to-sing chorus, editable lyrics, and above all danceable. For me, Buga will win a special place in our hearts as that African song that broke the universe in 2022.
