The origination of Hiplife in Ghana has sparked a lot of controversies and discussions in the music industry and Ghana at large. From Reggie Rockstone coming out to say he is the originator of the Hiplife music genre among others.
Abraham Ohene Gyan in an interview on 3FM with Mz Gee disclosed he does not think Reggie Rockstone or Pangee are the originators of Hiplife. Because what defines any genre of music, to him, is the beat.

According to Abraham Ohene Gyan, it is the engineer that creates the genre. He further indicated that the style of rapping or singing does not define a genre.
He revealed that the person to look out for would be Zapp Mallet. Because in terms of who put out the sound, which makes a particular trend of music a genre, it was Zapp Mallet. He indicated it was Zapp Mallet who put out what we now call, contemporary African Urban/Ghanaian music.
