The Black Stars lost 0-1 to the Moroccan counterparts in their first group stage match played at the multi-purpose stadium, ‘Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo’ in Yaounde on Monday evening.
Sofiane Boufal scored the only goal of the game around 83th minutes of play after the Ghanaian defenders failed to defend between their lines at the dying moment of the game.
The Moroccans enjoyed lots of possession of 62% against The Black Stars of Ghana’s 38% during the game.

The Atlas Lions of Morocco remained resilient and managed to hold back Ghana’s attack led by the ‘Ayew brothers’ Jordan Ayew and Dede Ayew.
Coach Milovan Rajevac brought in fresh legs in the second half having goalkeeper Joseph Luke Wollacott in the post, Stade Rennais’s Mohammed Kamaldeen Sulemana on the wings partnering with Daniel Amartey in defense with Andy Yiadom and Baba Rahman at the right and left flanks respectively.
Richard Boakye and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku were all introduced into the game in the second half, with Joseph Painstil on the right flanks and Thomas Teye Party in the midfield partnering Idrissu Baba.
The Black Stars of Ghana will next face Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s Gabon at 7:00pm GMT on Friday.
The senior Soccer team is supposed to win and take a maximum of three points, in other to keep their chances of qualifying to the next stage of the competition.
Captain Dede Ayew spoke to the media after the defeat.
“I haven’t been feeling well for the past two days but I wanted to play my colleagues wanted me on the field so I did everything possible to be on the field” Captain for the Black Stars said after the game.
“No problem, we are very disappointed to concede at the last minute. I think we showed a solid team against one of the tournament’s favorites. we went head to head with them, am very calm and very confident that we will go to the next stage and that’s why we are here” the captain added.
Having won the trophy last in Libya 1982, The Black Stars of Ghana have come close to the trophy in 1992, 2010 and 2015.
Ghanaians are on their quest to end country’s 40 years trophy drought in the 33rd edition of AFCON in Cameroon.
