An Import & Export Manager’s service is needed at At ASCO, a reputable shipping company.

Role Overview:

  • This role requires an experienced Logistics Practitioner who has experience in dealing with Customs on various Customs
  • Procedure codes. It requires critical thinking and the ability to study international shipping documents and knowing what to do when a request comes from a customer,
  • The role requires a dynamic personality that is able to analyse information and take action in order to facilitate the speedy movement of Goods.
  • The company works with customs who use various regimes with Customs such as Free zones, in bond manufacturing.
  • Bonded Warehouse Operations, Temporary Importation processing, Government exemptions Cargo etc. The candidate should be conversant with the various regimes to be able to successfully manage the Import & Export Desk of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform Quality checks on documents received for Customs Clearance processing
  • Ensure prompt application & preparation of E-MDA’s with minimum error and delay
  • Ensure timely and smooth processing of cargo release with Shipping line and Terminals where necessary
  • Tracking of clients cargo and update file records
  • Ensure that the Documentation Team process Customs entry (Bo) with ICUMS system accurately with minimal errors.
  • Prepare Monthly reports of jobs done per cient.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure the smooth clearance of cargo
  • Keep track of all pending jobs.
  • Daily follow up on the status of jobs of dients.
  • Ensure accurate recording of clients’ updates and periodic communication is sent to all clients.
  • Keeping track of clearance to make sure we maintain clearing time of 3 working days after receipt of duty cheques and improve this KPI over time.
  • Follow up with existing Clients for new files to meet targets set for the year.
  • Responding to queries on files from Clients when it appears to be above the level of Customer Service and Operations supervisor.
  • Sensitize field staff of new policies introduced into the industry by Stakeholders.
  • Attend all stakeholder industry meetings on behalf of the Organization that relate to the Operations of ASCO.
  • Resolve all issues relating to clearing of cargo from port.
  • Supervise all reports generated from the Operations desks.
  • Prepare and Submit reports of files received, pending and completed on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis.
  • Apply Customs Law to inform and advice client and company on best approach to solving problems.
  • Ensure all pending jobs are perfected and closed with Customs.
  • Handle all Exemptions processing & suspense regime related issues and ensure they are closed and reconciled/perfected.
  • Train subordinates to come up to take on role in case of absence from work

Preferred Qualification & Experience:

  •  A bachelor’s degree in Logistics & Shipping
  • Experience with GCNET & ICUMS
  • A minimum Eight (8) years’ relevant work experience in the Logistics Industry
  • A track record of adding value to any business endeavour
  • Customs proficiency certificate
  • Must understand Customs procedures in relation to Import & Exports
