There are some Ghanaians who believe that the use of the Twi languages voices in foreign telenovelas are the main reason why people prefer foreign telenovelas to our local movies. The way the television stations take their time to go to studios to produce these voices for foreign movies seems to beat the imagination of some Ghanaians.
To some Ghanaians, the process of putting Twi language voices in the background of foreign telenovelas looks to be a lengthy task. However, some television stations in the country have time for it. A video has recently surfaced online showing how voices are created for telenovelas and Ghanaians cannot keep quiet about it.
Watching the video carefully, you can see a Ghanaian woman behind the microphone in a studio. What she’s doing is acting just like the white lady in the drama. She pays attention to the voice in the video and translates it into Twi. She exaggerates and expresses too many emotions in the process of translating from the English language to the Twi language. This lady appears to be crying at one point during the recording, but at the end of the recording, she was seen laughing and joking.
When some Ghanaians saw this video, they commented, “These are the ones who are ruining our indigenous movie industry.” They claimed that while local television stations appear to be making a lot of money from telenovelas, they are killing our local film business. Others also said that the local movie industry destroyed itself because it got to a time that all content they produce is about comedy and witchcraft.
