Ghana is set to name a new coach to handle the senior national team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars booked a fourth FIFA World Cup appearance in Qatar after going past West Africa rivals, Nigeria in the final playoffs over two legs.

The first leg of the clash produced a barren result at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on March 25,2022. The Super Eagles were bent on upsetting the Black Stars at their own backyard but that could not materialize after the entire duration of hostilities.

The return leg was set for the Moshood Abiola Stadium four days after the first leg of the clash at the Baba Yara Stadium. The Black Stars shocked the packed Moshood Stadium with an opener from Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey.

The goal piled much pressure on the Super Eagles to try and get a goal which they did from the spot. Forward, Lookman Ademola was adjudged to have been brought down by Denis Odoi in the penalty area with VAR check agreeing to award Nigeria the penalty. Captain of the side, William Troost-Ekong made no mistake by displacing Joseph Wollacott for the equalizer.

The goal was not enough to qualify Nigeria as the away goal rule sent Ghana through to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The double leg qualifiers was led by Otto Addo, Chris Hughton, George Boateng and MasUd Didi Dramani. It’s not known whether the technical team will continue with the team in Qatar. According to the GFA PRO, a new coach will soon be named for the 2022 FIFA World.
