Outgoing Second Gentleman of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has vowed to improve the lives of victims affected by the recent Kantamanto market fire outbreak.
During a visit to the scene on December 6, 2024, Dr. Bawumia expressed his heartfelt condolences and shared his commitment to aiding the affected traders despite stepping down as Vice President.
In his address to the victims, Dr. Bawumia described the devastating incident as not only a tragedy for the victims but also a deeply personal loss for him. “This incident has touched me profoundly. Though my colleagues in the NPP have visited, I needed to see the devastation firsthand,” he remarked.

Dr. Bawumia reassured the traders that, while he may no longer hold the office of Vice President after tomorrow, he is dedicated to assisting in the market’s reconstruction.
As part of his plans, the tech-savvy leader pledged to install CCTV cameras at the rebuilt market to enhance security and transparency. “I will ensure the market is equipped with surveillance systems so that secretive activities are brought to light, fostering safety and accountability,” he added.
