The Asanteman Council has officially set Thursday, August 21, 2025, for the one-week observance of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

The commemorative rites will be held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the heart of the Ashanti Kingdom, and are expected to draw royals, chiefs, dignitaries, and mourners from across Ghana and the diaspora. The event will be steeped in centuries-old Asante traditions, reflecting the deep respect and cultural heritage associated with the Queen Mother’s role.

The date was confirmed during a council meeting at Manhyia Palace on Monday, August 11, 2025, marking the first official announcement since her peaceful passing on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 98.

Life and Legacy of Nana Konadu Yiadom III

Nana Konadu Yiadom III ascended to the revered position of Asantehemaa in 2017, succeeding her late mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who passed away in 2016.

Born in 1927 in Benyaade, Kwadaso, she was the eldest of five siblings. Before taking up her royal responsibilities, she lived a grounded and industrious life, engaging in catering, farming, and petty trading—qualities that earned her admiration for her humility and strong work ethic.

Her reign as Queen Mother was marked by her commitment to preserving Asante culture, offering wise counsel to the Asantehene, and fostering unity within the kingdom.
The one-week observance will serve as a moment of reflection and tribute to a woman whose life bridged the old and new eras of the Ashanti Kingdom, leaving behind an enduring legacy for generations to come
