Entertainment critic and artiste manager Nana Asiamah Hanson, better known as Bullgod, has voiced his support for veteran musician Rex Omar as the next Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts under a potential John Mahama administration. As discussions intensify regarding key ministerial appointments in Mahama’s proposed 60-minister government, names like Rex Omar, Dzifa Gomashie, and Baba Sadiq are emerging as strong contenders for the position.

Bullgod’s Endorsement of Rex Omar

In an interview with Empire FM in the Western Region, Bullgod expressed his preference for Rex Omar, citing his leadership role at the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) as evidence of his competence and commitment to the industry. Bullgod emphasized the importance of character over academic qualifications, saying, “I believe we should put people in positions based on their dedication and commitment. Although qualifications are paramount, for me, character supersedes qualifications. Their dedication to service matters, and Rex has shown that.”

Criticism of Opposition Within the Creative Industry

Bullgod also addressed opposition from certain members of the creative industry, specifically calling out Kumawood actor Big Akwes. He criticized Big Akwes’ involvement in the conversation, pointing out his history with the NPP (New Patriotic Party) and questioning his right to oppose those who have been actively working in the creative sector since 2016. “Big Akwes has no locus on who is going to do what… if he makes a recent U-turn and joins the campaign for John Mahama, he doesn’t get to antagonize people who have been doing the work since 2016,” Bullgod stated.

Call for Unity in the Industry

Bullgod warned against unnecessary divisions within the industry, emphasizing that infighting weakens their collective influence. He argued that such divisions lead to the creative sector being overlooked by politicians. “For me, it’s too early for us to be fighting over anything. This is why politicians don’t take us seriously. This is why they may overlook us and go for someone who doesn’t appreciate our struggles,” he stated.

Questioning the Impact of Past Ministers

Bullgod also critiqued the educational backgrounds of past ministers, questioning the tangible impact they had on the creative sector. “With all their education, what has been their contribution to the sector? It’s about time we prioritize service and dedication,” he added.

Ongoing Debate

Bullgod’s endorsement of Rex Omar adds to the ongoing conversation about the leadership of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts. As the creative arts industry eagerly awaits Mahama’s final ministerial picks, this endorsement further highlights the importance of choosing someone with both dedication and a deep understanding of the industry’s needs.
