Thomas Tuchel has officially been named the new manager of the England men’s national football team. The 51-year-old German coach has signed an initial 18-month contract, with a reported salary between £6 million and £7 million.

Tuchel will take over from Gareth Southgate and begin his tenure in January 2024, with his contract extending through the 2026 World Cup in the United States.

He will be supported by English coach Anthony Barry, who previously worked with him at Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

Tuchel expressed his pride in accepting the role, calling it a “huge privilege” and noting his personal connection to the English game.

This appointment marks Tuchel’s first foray into international management, following a successful club career that includes winning the Champions League with Chelsea and multiple league titles in Germany and France.

Tuchel will assume his duties full-time in January, with interim manager Lee Carsley overseeing England’s November fixtures.
