Labour Party Threatens To Occupy INEC Offices Nationwide

The Labour Party has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of frustrating its petition against the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.

At a press conference in Lagos, the spokesman of the Presidential Campaign Council of the party, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, accused INEC of disobeying the Order of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal which directed it to grant the Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, access to the certified true copies of materials used in the conduct of the poll.

He said the order of the presidential election petition tribunal was duly served on INEC on March 3 even though the commission was present and represented at the tribunal when the order was made. He said the party also sent a letter to the Commission on March 6, reminding the electoral umpire that it was yet to obey the order.

10th Assembly: Six Reps move to Senate

No fewer than six current members of the House of Representatives have been elected to the Senate in the National Assembly Election held on February 25, 2023.

According to the list of winners of the election so far released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the lawmakers move from representing federal constituencies to senatorial districts. There are also two former members of the House joining the Red Chamber.

They include the current Majority Whip of the House, Mohammed Monguno, who is representing Monguno/Marte/Ganzai Federal Constituency in Borno State at the House. The APC member will represent Borno North Senatorial District in the 10th Assembly. There is also Adeyemi Adaramodu, who will represent Ekiti South Senatorial District on the platform of the APC. He is presently representing Ekiti South-West/Ikere/Ise/Orun Federal Constituency in Ekiti State.

Mahmood Yakubu should face prosecution, PDP tells police, DSS

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded that security agencies such as the Department of State Services and the Police investigate and prosecute the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu over his alleged complicity in the criminal manipulation and alteration of election results.

This, the PDP said should be a natural follow-up to the INEC chairman’s resignation from office. National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, said this at a press conference, at the party’s National Secretariat, Abuja, on Friday. The PDP Spokesman said, “Prof. Mahmood Yakubu’s exit as Chairman of INEC will be the first step towards sanitizing the Electoral Commission and restoring the confidence of Nigerians especially as the nation prepares for the rescheduled March 18, 2023, Governorship and State Assembly elections.

“Furthermore, the PDP demands that the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Directorate of State Services (DSS) immediately commence investigations into the electoral violations and manipulations by INEC with the view to prosecuting Prof. Mahmood Yakubu and other officials of the Commission for electoral offenses.”

FCT minister mourns as monarch dies, buried

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Muhammad Bello, on Friday led a delegation of FCT Administration officials, and traditional rulers to the funeral prayer for the late Etsu Yaba in the Abaji Area Council, Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi.

Malam Bello, while offering prayers for the late monarch, described him as an upright leader who worked tirelessly for the well-being of members of his community during his lifetime. He said, “The late Etsu was a selfless leader because he never relented in pursuing projects which will bring development to his community and the entire FCT. We pray that God forgives his shortcomings and grants him Ajanna Firdaus.”

Also speaking, the Chairman of the FCT Traditional Council of Chiefs and Ona of Abaji, Adamu Yunusa, said the late Etsu was a peace-loving man, who made immense contributions to the development of the FCT. The Secretary of the FCT Area Councils Services Secretariat, Ibrahim Dantsoho, said the monarch passed away on Thursday night after a brief illness.
