Why Ban Large Gatherings But Allow Churches And Mosques? Serwah Amihere Asks

Ghanaian female broadcaster and presenter who works with EIB Network has questioned the government as to why large gatherings are banned but it is allowing worshiping centers to operate.

On 31st of January 2021, the first gentleman of the land Nana Akufo-Addo updated Ghanaians on COVID-19 and there was a particular section which he mentioned that, large gatherings are banned but did not add worship centers. This has raised a lot of questions as to why churches are allowed to operate whiles large gatherings are banned.

“Until further notice, funerals, weddings, concerts, theatrical performances and parties are banned. Private burials, with no more than twenty-five (25) people can take place, with the enforcement of social distancing, hygiene and mask wearing protocols” H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo declared.

Serwah Amihere is also part of the people asking such questions. “Why were churches not banned as well because they also fall under ‘gatherings’.

“We’re banning large gatherings but allowing churches and mosques? Are they not large gatherings too?” Amihere questioned.
