Over the weekend, content creators from different walks of life trooped into Mensvic Grand Hotel at Lagos Avenue to meet and create content with top Ghanaian Youtubers.
The event which was hosted by Africa’s Youtuber Giant Berthold Kobby
Winkler popularly known as Wode Maya on Saturday, 28th August, 2021 at the Menzvic Grand hotel had recognized Youtubers who have more in-depth knowledge when it comes to content creation to be speakers on the show.
The theme of the program was ‘’Taking African Content Creation to The Next Level”.
During the event, the Scottish/Ghanaian married mum of two, Vanessa Kanbi who has over 128k subscribers on Youtube shared some key tips that has enabled her to be successful in the Youtube space.
According to Vanessa, thumbnail and collaboration has contributed a lot of her growth on Youtube therefore she encouraged content creators to take that seriously if they want their videos to be appealing to the audience.
She, however, highlighted that Wode Maya influenced her decision when she was contemplating on her settlement in Ghana. However, returning to her home country has been the best decision ever.
Mordin, who was the moderator of the event later called some other content creators like Stella Shanelly, Jasmine Ama, Ama Govenor among others to also share their content creation experience as well.
Ghanaian content creator Kwadwo Sheldon also shared how he started, touched on the challenges he encountered when he started his YouTube journey and encouraged content creators at the event to never ever give up.
Later on, Wode Maya was finally given the opportunity to also share his journey as a content creator.
According to Wode Maya, growing up, life wasn’t easy for him and his family, but because he was consistent and confident at what he was doing it has garnered him the popularity he has today.
Maya stated, people used to perceive him as jobless during his early stage on YouTube because most people have wrong narrative towards content creation in Africa.
Maya indicated that 2013 was when He decided to create videos on YouTube but it toke him 2 years to reach 10 views on his videos therefore content creators shouldn’t give up if they have the passion of creating content.
“I started YouTube videos in 2013. Two years when I upload my videos the highest will be ten and out of the ten views, I think I watch like nine of them. And I didn’t even know that when you refresh a video on YouTube. it counts so I started dancing when I see nine “. He said
“The first day I got 500 views, everyone on my floor got to know that I attained 500 views’’. He added
“I was born in the village, going to China ws my first time of seeing water closet because I only moved straight from the village to Accra to apply for my visa” He noted.
Wode Maya has been making waves with his content creation by using his platform to change the narratives of what other people think of Africans. However, pushing him to start touring other African countries and using his platform to tell the African stories the African way.
The event was a success as other content creators left fulfilled and the surprise guest appearance of Miss Trudy, the Kenyan girlfriend to Wode Maya only made the event much more eventful.
